Eye and Vision Examseye and vision exams at naples eye physicians to test for glaucoma and other eye conditions

Did you know that you're supposed to have an eye and vision exam at least once per year? Unfortunately, many people wait until they notice a change in their vision or other ocular problems before they decide to schedule an appointment with their eye doctor. However, by simply taking one hour out of your life per year, you could protect your eyes from potential ocular conditions and other issues.

Here at Naples Eye Physicians, eye and vision exams are just one of the many services we offer.

Your Initial Consultation

Our eye exams begin with an initial consultation with our eye doctors. During this consultation, we'll get to know you and learn more about your ocular and overall health. This will include asking you questions about your family history, previous eye problems, medications, and the like. If you've been experiencing any eye problems recently, this is also a good time for you to bring these up with our doctors.

As part of the consultation, we'll also want to find out more about your work environment. For example, do you work in an office setting where you're in front of a computer screen most of the day? If so, then this could affect your eye health and we'd like to know about it.

Eye Function Tests

As part of your comprehensive eye exam, we'll also perform eye function testing. The purpose of this is to evaluate your color vision, eye muscle capabilities, depth perception, responsiveness to light, and peripheral vision. This is all done through a series of simple tests that shouldn't take more than a few minutes. Still, eye function tests are an important part of any eye exam because they can reveal potential problems and underlying conditions that may need to be treated.

Vision Tests

In addition to eye function tests, we'll also want to evaluate your overall vision to determine if you might need prescription lenses or a stronger prescription. This will involve having you read eye charts and our doctor measuring the acuity of each eye based on your performance. If needed, we'll prescribe corrective lenses and discuss your options with you in-office. In some cases, eye exercises may also be recommended.

Ocular Health Examinations

Finally, we include a thorough eye examination as part of our eye exams here at Naples Eye Physicians. This involves assessing the internal and external parts of the eye to make sure there are no signs of ocular conditions, such as glaucoma or cataracts. If we find any potential problem areas, we may perform further testing so we can work towards developing a viable treatment plan for you.
